Bathroom Remodeling
Scope of work
Tile and grout aren't waterproof. A shower stays dry because of what's behind the tile: a sloped mortar bed or pre-sloped tray, a waterproofing membrane that runs up the walls, and properly sealed niches and valve penetrations. That layer is what we spend the most care on, because it's what a bad remodel skips and what rots out a subfloor in five years.
We remodel hall baths, primary baths and powder rooms. That includes tub-to-shower conversions, new vanities and tops, toilets, exhaust fans that actually vent outside, tile floors and walls, glass, lighting and accessories.
What's included
- Demolition to studs and subfloor inspection and repair
- Shower pans, waterproofing membranes and curbless options
- Tub-to-shower conversions and new soaking or alcove tubs
- Wall and floor tile, niches, benches and trim
- Vanities, tops, mirrors, medicine cabinets and lighting
- Licensed plumbing for valves, drains and fixtures
- Exhaust fans ducted to the exterior
- Accessibility upgrades: grab-bar blocking, low-threshold showers
Local conditions
Bathrooms in older NYC houses and buildings
Out-of-level floors. Older Staten Island and Brooklyn homes have floors that have settled over decades. We level and reinforce the subfloor before tile so large-format tiles don't crack or lip.
Apartment buildings. In condos and co-ops, waterproofing is often a board requirement because a leak lands in your neighbor's ceiling. We document the membrane with photos for the building file.
Aging in place. We add blocking for future grab bars and can build low-threshold showers so the bathroom still works for you twenty years from now.

FAQ
Bathrooms questions
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A typical full hall-bath remodel is about two to three weeks on site once tile, vanity and fixtures are on hand. Small refreshes are faster; layout changes take longer.
Can you convert my tub to a walk-in shower?
Yes. It's one of the most requested bathroom projects. We remove the tub, build a waterproofed shower with a low curb or curbless entry, and tile it out.
Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel?
Replacing fixtures and finishes in place usually doesn't need a permit. Moving drains and supply lines, or adding a bathroom, generally needs a licensed plumber's filing. We'll tell you which applies.
