Siding installation & replacement on Staten Island

Siding Installation & Replacement
Scope of work
Siding is a rain screen. Its job is to shed most of the water, and the house wrap and flashing behind it handle the rest. When siding fails, it's usually because what's behind it was skipped. We strip the old siding, check the sheathing, wrap the house, flash every window and door, then hang the new siding.
We install vinyl (standard and insulated) and fiber-cement lap siding, plus vinyl or aluminum-wrapped trim, soffits and fascia. If your house has original wood clapboard or shingles worth keeping, we'll tell you that too. Sometimes repair and exterior painting is the better call.
What's included
- Removal and disposal of old siding (including asbestos-shingle siding testing referral where needed)
- Sheathing repairs and new house wrap
- Window and door flashing tape, J-channel and drip caps
- Vinyl, insulated vinyl and fiber-cement lap siding
- Corner posts, trim, soffit, fascia and aluminum wrap
- Dryer vent, hose bib and light-block mounts so fixtures sit flat
- Matching repairs on part of a wall after storm or impact damage
Local conditions
Siding choices for Staten Island houses
Shore exposure. On the East and South Shore, salt air and wind push hard on cladding. Insulated vinyl and fiber-cement both resist rattling and impact better than thin builder-grade vinyl, and fiber-cement won't warp near a hot grill or a reflective window.
Older siding can contain asbestos. Many mid-century houses on the island have cement-asbestos shingle siding under a newer layer. If we suspect it, testing and abatement come first, done by a licensed abatement firm, before we touch it. We'll tell you up front.
Landmark districts. In Staten Island's designated historic districts (such as St. George/New Brighton), exterior material changes need Landmarks Preservation Commission approval. We'll flag it if your address is affected.

FAQ
Siding questions
Is vinyl or fiber-cement siding better for Staten Island?
Both work. Vinyl costs less, needs no painting and is easy to repair. Fiber-cement is heavier, more impact- and heat-resistant, and looks more like painted wood, but it costs more and gets repainted every 10–15 years. Near the water, insulated vinyl or fiber-cement holds up better than thin vinyl.
Can new siding go over old siding?
We prefer to strip it. That's the only way to see rot, fix the sheathing and install proper house wrap and window flashing. Going over existing siding also makes windows look sunken and trim details awkward.
Do you replace siding on just one wall?
Yes. After storm damage or an addition, we can patch or replace one elevation. Exact color matching on faded vinyl isn't always possible, so we'll show you samples first.
